Egypt to India: first green ammonia shipment signals a new era

In a pioneering move towards sustainability, India has recorded its maiden import of 37.4 tons of green ammonia from Egypt's Damietta Port, as confirmed by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. This historic shipment signifies a significant shift in India's chemical imports.

The V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOP) on the East Coast of India effectively managed the arrival of three 20-foot ISO containers, collectively carrying 37.4 tons of green ammonia. This environmentally conscious import was facilitated for Tuticorin Alkali Chemical and Fertilisers Ltd (TFL). TFL has embarked on this initiative to explore the potential of green ammonia in the production of green soda ash, marking the start of a trial period. As part of their larger commitment to sustainability, TFL plans to import 2,000 metric tons of green ammonia this year, contingent on its availability.

The successful import of green ammonia from Egypt to India not only underscores the global push for eco-friendly chemical solutions but also highlights the growing interest in sustainable practices within the chemical industry.
