In 2016, Smurfit Kappa awarded to Toscotec the rebuilding project for the Company’s Barbosa paper machine’s dryer section in Colombia
Smurfit Kappa Papelsa recognized Toscotec as the right ally to offer the best technology available in drying process and upkeep the company for a rapid growth in the South American market.
After an extensive project that lasted 25 months, the PM started up in July 2017. Toscotec service specialists were responsible for offering SKP supervision, commissioning and start up assistance during the entire process.
Through the rebuild, Smurfit Kappa’s goal was to improve efficiency, as well as to increase the operating speed to 1,000 mpm. It also aimed to improve real gross production by over 40%. The alliance between Toscotec and SK enabled the packaging company to grow its containerboard production to 120,000 tons per year. Also, the main benefits the company was looking for with the application of TT SteelDryers, were to improve the safety levels of its equipment, to have a wider drying face length with the same space requirements, and a higher heat transfer rate.
According to Enrico Fazio, Toscotec’s Paper & Board Sales Manager, the company is very proud of the alliance with Smurfit Kappa and satisfied with the results of the project. Toscotec strengthened its commitment to multifaceted rebuilding due to the advanced technology and the suppleness shown on various projects, and it proved its leadership on the dryer sections.
