There was a decline of almost 50 percent in the period

Pakistani cement sales and exports declined by 47.7 percent in July, when compared to the same period of last year. The overall cement dispatches went from 3.899 million tons to 2.009 million, writes Dawn.

According to the data shared by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA), local cement dispatch fell 45.3 percent to 1.88 million tons in July 2021 from 3.44 million tons in July 2021 due to monsoon rains and longer local holidays. Exports fell by 66 percent to 153,517 tons in July from 452,777 tons a year ago.

A local official attributed July’s sales fall to “a slowdown in construction activities owing to rain and higher construction costs”. Exports suffered owing to the global economic slowdown, disruption in the global supply chain, and higher sea freight.
