Greenwich (CT), USA, June 14, 2022 – Petroleum coke production is rising in Asia, with India posting significant growth in production, while the US and Spain are declining in the first three months of 2022 in comparison to the same period in 2021, according to CW Research’s CW Research's PetcokeWeek Market Data.

 

“Global petcoke production, which had started to rebound from the lows caused by the pandemic, has been significantly impacted by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has considerably reshaped the global energy market”, explains Wanderson Teixeira, Business Analyst at CW Group.

 

Green petcoke production in Asia has a positive outlook

Uncalcined petroleum coke production in India was up 27 percent in the first two months of 2022, when compared to the same period in the previous year. Green petcoke production posted a 13 percent month-on-month increase in March.

March’s petcoke production in China increased almost 1 percent month-on-month, while on a year-on-year basis it declined by an estimated 2 percent. In the first quarter of 2022, green petcoke production in China was up 2 percent when compared to the same period in the previous year.

 

Spain and the US register lower production volumes in January-March 2022

In January, green petcoke production in Spain increased 5 percent compared to the same month in the previous year, but remained stable month-on-month. In February, it declined by almost 17 percent month-on-month. Whereas in March, production again declined 3 percent when compared to February. For the year-to-date through March, green petcoke production in Spain declined almost 7 percent.

Green petcoke production in the US registered a month-on-month decrease of almost 7 percent in January 2022, however, on a yearly basis it increased 7 percent.

 

US petcoke exports increased in the first three months of 2022

The year started with green petcoke exports in the US decreasing around 7 percent in January month-on-month, and around 3 percent when compared to January 2021. However, in February exports increased 33 percent while in March exports rose 8 percent year-on-year.

Despite a decrease in production, during the first three months of the year, green petcoke exports increased almost 12 percent compared to the same period last year.
