Revolutionizing the Tissue Market with Sustainable Innovation

{reg}

Metsä Tissue is embarking on a pioneering venture by announcing plans to construct a state-of-the-art tissue paper mill in Goole, poised to transform the UK's tissue market and reinforce local sustainability endeavors.

The upcoming Goole facility will harness cutting-edge technologies to produce tissue paper products for the UK and Irish markets. It will primarily utilize fresh fiber pulp sourced from sustainably managed forests in the Nordics. Covering approximately 200 acres, this mill will have the remarkable capacity to manufacture 240,000 tons of tissue paper. The construction will unfold in multiple phases throughout the coming decade, catering to both professional and consumer markets, establishing a production level unparalleled in the UK.

This significant investment will give rise to the UK's largest tissue mill, substantially reducing the need for tissue product imports into the UK and Ireland.

Upon reaching full operational capacity, the mill will generate over 400 direct job opportunities within the facility, alongside thousands more jobs in the supply chain and the local economy

Metsä Tissue's commitment to the UK, one of Europe's largest tissue markets, shines through this venture. The proposed mill represents an opportunity to introduce locally produced, sustainable tissue products to the UK, increasing the nation's self-sufficiency in this sector by 30 percent.

Central to Metsä Tissue's ethos is sustainability, with an ambitious target of manufacturing all products from fully fossil fuel-free raw materials by 2030. Moreover, the company aims to operate all its mills, including the forthcoming Goole facility, entirely without fossil fuels by the same year.
