Metsä Tissue has announced a substantial investment in a cutting-edge tissue paper mill in Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, UK. This multi-million-pound project aims to establish the UK's largest tissue mill, significantly reducing tissue product imports into the UK and Ireland.

Pending approvals, the 200-acre site will produce 240,000 tons of tissue paper annually, serving both professional and consumer markets. Around 45 percent of tissue products are currently imported, and Metsä Tissue plans to replace nearly half of these with locally produced items, using sustainable fresh fibre pulp from Nordic forests.

Esa Kaikkonen, CEO of Metsä Tissue, highlights Goole's strategic location and alignment with sustainable manufacturing goals.

The Goole facility will employ state-of-the-art sustainable production, aiming for fossil fuel-free operations by 2030.

This investment supports the Goole tax site in Humber Freeport, creating over 400 jobs at the site and thousands more in the local economy.

Minister for Investment, Lord Dominic Johnson, recognizes the benefits for the region and communities.

Metsä Tissue, part of Metsä Group, is a leading tissue paper supplier in Europe and a global leader in greaseproof paper.
