Green petroleum coke production in August 2021 increased in four major select markets, United States, China, India and Japan, reflecting the rebound in industrial activity and rising demand for energy worldwide during the third quarter of this year, according to CW Research's PetcokeWeek Market Data.

In China, Japan, and India, production strengthened in the first eight months of the year, compared to the same period last year, while in the US, production weakened in the same period.

ÔÇ£The Covid-19 pandemic has weighed on coke output as a consequence of a reduction in refinery runs since mid-2020 in important source markets including the US. In addition, Hurricane Ida resulted in almost all of the oil production along the Gulf Coast shutting down by the end of August. Meanwhile, petcoke demand has been booming in India, China and Japan, amidst tight availability and higher prices,ÔÇØ commented Prashant Singh, Associate Director at CW Group.
