Indian cement consumption topped 21.5 million tons in January 2013, volume that represented a new uninterrupted historical maximum for the month. Between 2009 and 2013, January's cement consumption grew by a compound annual growth rate of 7.6 percent.

The confirmed increase in demand brought a breath of fresh air for the cement companies as the market was still recovering from the sluggish November 2012 (17.1 million tons). November was also the only month of 2012 to notch an inferior YOY level when compared to 2011.
